“Arab Music for Dancers” returns!

Michael first taught a series of this nature in 2021.  Now, since his workshop at GoLive! 2023, he has been asked to do it again so that dancers can enhance their listening skills, deepen their understanding of Arab music structure, and have the opportunity to ask questions of one of the leaders in the Arab music industry.

Michael has a comprehensive format for addressing maqam, modulation, structure, and rhythm within the context of selected pieces of music and from the unique vantage point of an orchestra conductor and multi-instrumentalist.

Michael will be using music that many of us  heard at GoLive! 2023, including Aziza and Al Hinna; and he will point out how the lessons from these pieces are applicable to others.

What previous students have to say:

"After Michael's classes, I listened to my music again and found an entirely different level of highs, lows, and accents that I had totally missed before." - Sue, Florida

"It was challenging but in a good way. It forced me to revisit how I listen to Arabic music. Thank you!" - Leeza, Massachusett

"I appreciate the way Michael breaks down the structure of a piece of music and the way he plays different Arabic instruments in class to help interpret the modules we are discussing. It keeps the lesson interesting and engaging. I would highly recommend taking Michael’s classes to anyone interested in honing their listening skills." - Jessica, California
