Shimmy, isolate, and let your body respond to every beat in this playful and powerful Tabla Solo choreography!
“This composition, by renowned Egyptian composer Riyad al-Sunbati, is a lively and lyrical piece in typical “longa” form. This is a dancer's dream – 2/4 metered verses with a ¾ (waltzy) wrap-up verse and an obvious recurring refrain that lifts you every time. Of course, our rendition will also have a taqsim in the middle. The music moves! You can hear it. So, so will we. An exercise in timing and coordination, dancers in this class need to be ready to be light on their feet (or willing to learn to be) and prepared to embody the melodic shapes of the piece while doing so. You’ll feel it in your feet and your soul.”
